The catalyst is a metal honeycomb structure in which precious metals (palladium, rhodium and platinum) are incorporated in the surface. These metals convert the toxic carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons in exhaust gases into nontoxic carbon dioxide and water vapor.
